LeBron 13 GS ‘Doernbecher’

Nike and the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital have long collaborated to allow young patients the chance to create their own colorways. Here, Kian Safholm was tapped to create a new look on the LeBron 13. The LeBron 13 GS ‘Doernbecher,’ a grade-school size shoe, emerges in a gradient fade meant to mimic a sunrise on the savanna, a design choice inspired by LeBron James’ own association with lion themes. The insole sports Safholm’s family crest as well as the words ‘Forever Grateful,’ adopted by his family after his (successful) battle against a staph infection in his heart. A flag on the tongue of the right shoe gives a final callout to the young designer, while a lion on the heel rounds out the theme.
